Sealing of Kings Road Kapunda

Light Regional Council is pleased to announce that it will receive up to $397,000 in funding through the Australian Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program for the sealing of Kings Bridge Road just northeast of Kapunda.

Light Regional Council is pleased to announce that it will receive up to $397,000 in funding through the Australian Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program for the sealing of Kings Bridge Road just northeast of Kapunda.

In regard to the announcement of the funding for these works Mayor O’Brien stated “I am extremely happy to report that Council have been successful in securing major matching funding from the Australian Government for the upgrade and sealing of Kings Bridge Road north of Kapunda.  Council is most grateful for this assistance.  Kings Bridge Road is an important link in the Heavy Vehicle Freight Route and the works will greatly assist in moving freight away from the central business district in our town.  The funding also provides Council with the opportunity to continue to invest in infrastructure that support the transport related industries in our region and is a further link in completing the jigsaw with only one portion of route remaining to be realigned and sealed.  I am sure that those drivers who regularly use this route to take their harvested products and livestock to the marketplace will also welcome this major upgrade.  I would also acknowledge the considerable efforts of Council staff in securing this valuable funding.”

Mark Johnson, Director of the Kapunda based hay and feed pellet processing company, JT Johnson and Sons has welcomed the announcement saying “the investment would assist with the transport of hay, grain, livestock and machinery for farmers in the districtThe commitment from Light Regional Council and the Australian Government to improve regional freight routes is appreciated and will help local businesses become more efficient in very competitive markets,” Mr Johnson said.

Council will match the government’s contribution and has estimated the works at approximately $800,000.  Works will include new pavement, stormwater drainage improvements, sealing and minor junction works at the Thiele Highway and Marrabel Road.

Council is planning to commence construction early in 2019 with all works completed prior to winter.

For further information on these works, enquiries should be directed to Council’s General Manager, Infrastructure & Environment, Richard Dodson on 8525 3200 or light@light.sa.gov.au
